How to Have a Romantic Summer Picnic

Summer is a fun-filled time of year. Fireworks, pool parties, and yes, picnics are all part of the seasonal festivities that traditionally mark the summer solstice. Why not add a spark of love to your activities, and create a romantic summer picnic experience for the two of you? Follow the steps below, and you'll see the sparks flying between you and your lover in no time!

1. Pick a Time and Place

The cooler temperatures of the evening hours make a perfect time to enjoy a romantic sunset picnic with your lover. Pick a place that is insect free if possible. An open park with manicured lawns and cool breezes is a great choice. You could also choose a place, perhaps overlooking a lake or along the seashore, where the two of you can sit and watch the sunset together afterwards.

2. Plan the Menu

There are literally hundreds of fine foods to pick from. Try something you don't normally eat for your evening meal, slightly exotic, but not too crazy. Avoid messy foods like spaghetti and meatballs. Sandwiches or wraps are an excellent choice. Bring along your favorite bottle of sparkling cider and two wine glasses and celebrate your love with a toast.

3. Set the Mood With Music

Do you have a playlist of your favorite tunes? Carry a portable music player with you and play the music softly in the background as you enjoy your picnic together. The key here is softly. You don't want it to be a distraction, just a mood changer.

4. Don't Forget the 'Extras'

What would a picnic be without the plates, cups, plasticware (or silverware), napkins and red and white checked table cloth? Don't forget a bag, box or basket to carry it all in as well. It doesn't have to be fancy; just something practical and large enough to haul the food and 'fixings' to and from your chosen picnic spot.

5. Remember to Slow Down and Be Totally Present

That's right. Be sure to turn off your smart phone and truly enjoy the food and each others' presence. We tend to be constantly distracted, even while in the company of those we love. Turning your electronics off will make this romantic picnic a time where nothing else matters. It's just the two of you, enjoying a meal together away from the fast paced lives we all lead.

And finally, relax and enjoy yourselves! The memories will last a lifetime.
